Xiaomi is going to release more Android One devices like the Mi A1
Xiaomi wants to release more smartphones this year in the Android One program, so that the devices do not run Miui but stock Android. These can also be devices from his budget series Redmi, says the director.
Director Lei Jun says in an interview with TechPP that more Android One devices are in the planning. According to Lei Jun, customers, at least in India, find stock Android a nice addition. Last year’s Mi A1 smartphone was the first Xiaomi phone without the skin from the manufacturer, Miui. The telephone also attracted the necessary attention in the Benelux.
Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 6X on Wednesday, the successor to the Mi 5X, which it sold outside of China as the Mi A1. In addition, the manufacturer has not announced whether a version with stock Android will be available outside of China. Many customers expect that.
The Chinese manufacturer is not alone in developing smartphones within the Android One program. The Finnish HMD Global, among others, decided to put all its Nokia smartphones this year in Android One. Among them are the mid-range devices Nokia 6 2018 and Nokia 7 Plus, but also the high-end 8 Sirocco.
Android One is a program from Google whereby manufacturers deliver a phone without a skin and thereby promise to release ‘timely’ upgrades of the operating system for at least two years. In addition, they say they will send the latest patches to the phone every month for at least three years.
