Xiaomi introduces Mi 9 Pro 5G with wireless fast charging at 30W
Xiaomi has announced the Mi 9 Pro 5G. It is a variant of the current Mi 9 with a slightly faster soc and a 5g modem. The device supports wireless fast charging at 30W. Xiaomi has also announced a new Miui version and a TV with small bezels.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G changes little in appearance compared to the regular Mi 9. The screen still has a notch and the three cameras are unchanged. The Mi 9 Pro 5G does contain the renewed Snapdragon 855 Plus chip and a 5g modem. There is also now an option for 12GB of ram, where the Mi 9 was supplied with a maximum of 8GB of ram.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G can wirelessly fast charge with a power of 30W. With this, the 4000mAh battery should be fully charged in 69 minutes. For this technique, Xiaomi sells an optional wireless fast charging station that is actively cooled with fans. This accessory costs 199 yuan, converted about 25 euros. The Mi 9 Pro 5G can charge wired with 40W, with which the battery should be filled in 48 minutes.
The new device includes reverse wireless charging with 10W of power. This allows the smartphone to be used as a wireless charging station for other devices that can handle the Qi standard. For example, the phone can be used to charge wireless earphones, smartwatches and other smartphones.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G includes a 6.39″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The device is equipped with a linear motor for haptic feedback. This ensures, according to Xiaomi, “stronger vibration, faster response times and multiple vibration effects”. Expect this to be a kind of variant of Apple’s Haptic Touch technology.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G comes in four variants with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The cheapest model with 8GB ram and 128GB storage costs 3699 yuan, converted about 473 euros. The most expensive model with 512GB of storage and 12GB of ram costs 4299 yuan, which is converted about 550 euros. It is not yet known whether the device will come to Europe.
Xiaomi has also announced the new version of its Android skin Miui with a new design, new sound effects and a new font. Miui 11 is said to be the first mobile operating system with dynamically scaling fonts.
The new version of Xiaomi’s Android version includes two new office apps: Mi Work and Mi Go. Mi Work has support for file sharing, sending large documents and wireless printing. Mi Go has a ‘smart travel assistant’ and an ‘extreme battery saving mode’. With this, Xiaomi promises 24 hours of standby time with a remaining battery percentage of 5 percent. A stable ROM of Miui 11 will be released in China sometime in the middle of October.
Xiaomi also introduces the Full Screen TV Pro series. These 4k televisions have thin bezels and contain an Amlogic T972 processor with four cores that run at up to 1.9GHz. The televisions have 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity.
The television comes in three different sizes. For example, a 43″ model is for sale for 1499 Chinese yuan, converted about 192 euros. A 55″ model is available for 2399 yuan, which is about 307 euros. The most expensive model has a screen size of 65 “and costs 3399 yuan, or 435 euros. The televisions will be available from Xiaomi’s official sales channels from September 27. Nothing is known about availability in Europe.
Xiaomi also announced a smartphone with a “360-degree screen” at its event. The Mi Mix Alpha will be produced on a small scale from December and will cost EUR 2560 converted.
