Xiaomi has announced a new wireless fast charging technology. The ‘Mi Charge Turbo’ technology can fully charge a 4000mAh battery in 69 minutes. The technology will make its debut in the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G.

The manufacturer has unveiled the technology at its own event, after there were rumors about this last week. The current top models from Xiaomi already support wireless fast charging at 20W. Mi Charge Turbo increases this to 30W. Xiaomi claims that the new fast charging technology can charge an empty 4000mAh battery to fifty percent in just 25 minutes. A full charge takes about 69 minutes. The new technology also offers improved efficiency and less heat production.

In addition, smartphones with Mi Charge Turbo can also function as a wireless charging station at 10W. For example, power can be shared between multiple devices with support for wireless charging. The technology uses a kind of DC/DC converter for this. In addition, the new technology uses Bluetooth. This separates the data and power transfers. Most current reverse charging techniques go up to 5W.

Mi Charge Turbo will make its debut in the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, which was also announced at Xiaomi’s event. The Mi 9 Pro 5G will have a battery capacity of 4000mAh, but further specifications are still unknown. It has not been announced whether the device will come to Europe.

Xiaomi also announces two wireless charging stations. One of them has support for Mi Charge Turbo and is cooled with a fan. The other charger supports 20W fast charging, but can track where the user’s phone is on the surface and move the charging electronics if necessary. Because of this, it does not matter how the phone is placed on the station.

Xiaomi also indicates that they are testing a 40W wireless fast charging technology. The manufacturer is also working on a charging technique via wire of 100W with which a battery of 4000mAh is fully charged in seventeen minutes.
