Xiaomi equips new Black Shark gaming smartphone with OLED screen and 10GB ram

Xiaomi has announced a second gaming smartphone with its sub-brand Black Shark. The Helo is equipped with an OLED screen, a logo with RGB lighting, a Snapdragon 845-soc and has a maximum of 10GB lpddr4x. The manufacturer supplies two controllers with the most expensive model.

The Black Shark Helo has been announced by Xiaomi for the Chinese market, just like the first model. Compared to the first model, the soc is unchanged, but there is now also a version with 10GB of ram, in addition to variants with 6GB and 8GB. The RAM is combined with 128GB or 256GB flash storage.

According to the manufacturer, the cooling has been improved. There are now two heat pipes and they should keep the Snapdragon 845-soc twelve degrees cooler than the cooling in the previous model. Xiaomi supplies a controller with an analog stick in the versions with 6GB and 8GB ram; the most expensive model with 10GB ram also includes a second controller, which can be attached to the other side of the phone for more control options.

Xiaomi provides its new gaming phone with a 6″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The first Black Shark phone contained an LCD. The battery has a capacity of 4000mAh and the device runs on Android 8.1. headphone jack is missing; the device only has USB-C.

There is a dual camera on the back. The primary camera has a 12-megapixel sensor with 1.25 micron pixels and a lens with an aperture of f/1.75. The secondary camera has a 20-megapixel resolution, just like the front camera.

In China, the Black Shark Helo will be released on October 30, starting at 3,199 Yuan. Converted with VAT, that is about 486 euros. For that price, buyers get the model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage. The most expensive version with 10GB ram, 256GB storage and two controllers costs 4199 yuan, converted with VAT that is about 639 euros. The first Black Shark phone is offered by a single webshop in the Benelux for 586 euros.

The Black Shark Helo is the first smartphone with 10GB lpddr4x, but more devices with such a memory will be coming soon. Xiaomi has already announced that its Mi Mix 3 will also be equipped with 10GB of ram and there are rumors that a variant of the Vivo NEX with 10GB of ram will come. Until now, the maximum memory size in smartphones was 8GB.
