Xiaomi blocks updates on unlocked bootloader HyperOS smartphones
Users of a Xiaomi phone running HyperOS will not be able to get updates for their operating system if the bootloader is unlocked. Just like under MIUI, unlocking the bootloader is subject to strict conditions.
Xiaomi tells Android Authority that after unlocking the bootloader, updates for HyperOS will no longer arrive. Even if there is an upgrade from MIUI to HyperOS, it will not come in if users have an unlocked bootloader.
Furthermore, HyperOS will have the same restrictions as MIUI regarding unlocking the bootloader. Users cannot do this themselves, but will have to ask permission on the forum. In China, users must have shown activity on the forum to unlock the bootloader, but this is probably not necessary outside of China.
Xiaomi is one of the manufacturers that makes unlocking the bootloader relatively difficult. Google, Samsung and OnePlus, among others, make this easy for users. Xiaomi recently announced HyperOS. It’s a name change for Xiaomi’s Android release Miui. HyperOS recently came out with the Xiaomi 14.
