Xiaomi announces Mi VR Play glasses for smartphones

Xiaomi has announced its own VR glasses: the Mi VR Play. The VR glasses are an entry-level model that is comparable to Google’s Cardboard and Samsung’s Gear VR, and can accommodate smartphones with screen diagonals from 4.7 to 5.7 inches.

The Mi VR Play is to provide of a Lycra layer and Xiaomi promises to release copies with different prints. The smartphone can be placed in a holder that can be zipped closed. On top is a metal button for operation.

Xiaomi will initially only make the glasses available in China and then for a limited group of users who have signed up for the test period. They pay the symbolic amount of 1 Chinese yuan, converted 13 cents. Later, the manufacturer wants to make the VR glasses more widely available, but the Benelux will probably not fall under the regions of availability for a long time.
