Xiaomi announces Mi Band 2 in China
The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has announced its Mi Band 2. Unlike previous wearables from Xiaomi, this version has a screen. According to the maker, the bracelet lasts up to twenty days with its battery and can be ordered from next week.
The Mi Band 2 has an OLED screen with a diagonal of 0.42 “. Although the manufacturer does not mention a resolution, references can be found online to 0.42 “OLED screens with a resolution of 128×64 pixels. If the manufacturer adopted it, the screen would come out at 340 pixels per inch, making the screen slightly sharper than that of an iPhone 6s, but less sharp than that of virtually all other smartphones, including Xiaomi’s.
The Mi Band 2 has a 70mAh battery, which users can use for about twenty days. The seven gram device contains a heart rate monitor and hardware to count steps. In addition, the belt can vibrate to attract attention, for example if the user sits still for too long. The Mi Band 2 is waterproof and has an ip67 rating. The device measures 4×1.5 cm and is one centimeter thick. Connection via phones is Bluetooth 4.0 and requires iOS 7.0 and above or Android 4.4 and above.
The Mi Band 2 will be released in China next week, but an official release in Europe is not yet planned. Xiaomi is asking 149 yuan for the device, which is currently about twenty euros. Usually, Xiaomi devices cost a lot more than Xiaomi charges when imported into the Benelux through resellers.
The first Mi Band series did well in sales and the Chinese manufacturer delivered more than ten million copies. This makes Xiaomi the largest player in the wearables market after Fitbit.
