Xiaomi announces budget phone with 50-megapixel camera and 5000mAh battery

Xiaomi has announced the Redmi 12C, one of the cheapest models that Xiaomi has in its range. Like more expensive models, the Redmi 12C has a 50-megapixel camera and a battery with a capacity of 5000mAh.

Charging that 5000mAh battery is done with a maximum of 10W via an outdated micro-USB port and there are no other cameras apart from the 50-megapixel camera to take photos or videos: the second lens on the back is for a depth sensor, so it is too read on the product page.

The phone has a 6.71″ LCD with a resolution of 1650×720 pixels, good for a screen ratio of 20.6:9. The soc is a MediaTek Helio G85, with two ARM Cortex A75 cores up to 2GHz and six Cortex A55 cores cores, which includes 4GB or 6GB of lpddr4x memory and 128GB of eMMC 5.1 storage.The phone has a rear fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm jack for connecting audio devices.

Xiaomi says little about the primary 50-megapixel camera, so it remains unknown how large the sensor is, for example. You can make videos with the phone in a maximum of 1080p at 30fps. There is also a night mode and a portrait mode in the camera software. Other camera functions, such as 4k video recording and slow motion, are missing on the device.

The Redmi 12C is released in China for 699 yuan, currently about 93 euros. Redmi C phones are usually also released in Europe at a later date, although the recommended prices are considerably higher due to costs for import and VAT. For example, the Redmi 10C cost 169 euros around the release.
