Xiaomi has announced the Black Shark 4 and 4 Pro, two new gaming phones. The phones have two layers of cooling to prevent throttling and have capacitive shoulder buttons that are pressure sensitive.

Thanks to this pressure sensitivity, the software can detect the difference between a light touch and a firm press, and react to it, according to Xiaomi’s product page. The Black Shark 4 and 4 Pro follow up on last year’s Black Shark 3. In addition to the buttons, the gaming aspect also comes to the fore in the cooling. Between the screen and the pcb is a first vapor chamber; between the pcb and the back is a second layer. They should keep the processor up to eighteen degrees Celsius cooler than without cooling.

Xiaomi continues to focus on fast wired charging and has provided the phones with the option to charge with 120W, so that the phone can be fully charged again within fifteen minutes. Charging is done with 20V and 6A. The battery has a capacity of 4500mAh. Both phones have a 6.67″ OLED display from Samsung with a 120Hz refresh rate and the ability to process touch input up to 720 times per second. The phones have 6, 8 or 12GB Lpddr5 memory and 128 or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage .

The regular version and the Pro differ in two important areas. The regular version has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870-soc. That’s a reissue of last year’s Snapdragon 865. The Pro variant has a Snapdragon 888. The other big difference is in the camera setup. The regular version has a 48-megapixel main camera; The Pro has a 64-megapixel camera.

The cheapest regular version, with 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage, will cost 2699 yuan upon release in China, currently converted around 350 euros. The cheapest Pro version, with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage, costs around 515 euros. Nothing is known about a release in the Benelux yet. Previous Black Shark phones did come out in Europe.
