Chinese electronics group Xiaomi has unveiled the first smart TV of its sub-brand Redmi. The Redmi TV 70 is a 4k device with a screen diagonal of 70 inches. The television runs on Xiaomi’s PatchWall platform and also comes with the parent company’s smart assistant.

The Redmi TV 70 is powered by a sixth-generation Amlogic 64-bit octacore SOC, according to Xiaomi. The television is equipped with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage memory and dual-band WiFi.

Xiaomi’s PatchWall AI platform promises the viewer personalized recommendations for TV shows and other content. Redmi delivers the device complete with a bluetooth remote control with voice support. With the push of a button, the user activates the XiaoAI smart assistant. This allows, among other things, to search for programs and operate other devices in the house.

The Redmi TV 70 will be available from September 10 for 3799 Chinese yuan, converted around 480 euros, but will only be sold in China until further notice. Parent company Xiaomi has been selling televisions for some time under the Mi brand name. In the first half of 2019, 5.4 million units were sold. According to market researcher AVC, Xiaomi is the market leader in its home country of China, and the company has entered the top five worldwide.

Other Chinese companies such as OnePlus and Honor have also recently been trying to take a part of the smart TV market. OnePlus is expected to release its OnePlus TV at the end of September.
