XCOM Creators Show Gameplay Footage Of Tactical RPG Marvel’s Midnight Suns
XCOM creator Firaxis Games showed the first gameplay footage of Marvel’s Midnight Suns on Wednesday. This tactical RPG will include a turn-based battle system with cards. The game will be released in March 2022 for PC and consoles.
Among other things, Firaxis Games details the turn-based gameplay of Marvel’s Midnight Suns during a six-minute demonstration at game website IGN. Players create their own Marvel character, called The Hunter. This is used in the fight against Lilith. In addition, players can complete their team with different Marvel characters, for example from The Avengers or X-Men. The game also takes place in well-known locations from the Marvel universe, such as the Avengers headquarters.
The game revolves around turn-based combat, just like XCOM. Players can choose a team of up to three Marvel heroes to take on a mission. In Marvel’s Midnight Suns, players are dealt a number of ability cards on each turn. Each Marvel hero has their own set of unique cards, although players are given a random selection of these each turn. Players can also use the environment, for example by launching enemies at explosives, in order to deal extra area-of-effect damage.
Outside of combat, players can explore their base as The Hunter and strengthen their bonds with other Marvel heroes. Current footage includes Iron Man, Wolverine, Dr. Strange and Captain America. On September 7, Firaxis Games will show more gameplay footage on its website. Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be released March 22, 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
