Xbox Series X Smart Delivery feature also transfers progression in some games
The Xbox Series X’s Smart Delivery feature doesn’t just ensure that the correct version of a game is downloaded automatically. From games that support the function, existing save games from the Xbox One can also be transferred to the new console.
Microsoft states that the Smart Delivery feature means gamers don’t have to worry about their progression being lost when they move a game from Xbox One to the Xbox Series X, which is due out later this year. progression are also carried over to the new console.
This does not apply to all games. The Smart Delivery feature will at least be applied by Microsoft to its first-party games optimized for the Series X, but the technology is available for all developers to build into their games. At the moment it concerns at least the following games that are optimized for the new console and that support Smart Delivery anyway: Halo Infinite, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2, DiRT 5, Scarlet Nexus, Chorus, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, The Ascent, Call of the Sea, Gears 5, Second Extinction and Metal: Hellslinger. Microsoft sees this list as an addition to the thousands of games that can be brought to the Xbox Series X via backwards compatibility from day one.
The Smart Delivery feature ensures that players can always play the best version of a game. The feature recognizes which console is in use and then pulls in the best possible version of a game. A player who trades in their Xbox One for a Series X later this year will automatically receive the Series X version of a game, if available. There is no need to manually download or select that new Series X optimized version. This doesn’t just apply to digitally distributed games; physical copies can also support Smart Delivery.
