Xbox One version of Fallout 4 does not stutter when using ssd
The hiccups that the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 exhibits can be solved by moving the game to an SSD. However, placing the game on faster saves will not affect the frame rate.
Fallout 4 shows performance issues on consoles, it was revealed earlier this week. The frame rate regularly drops below 30fps, but the Xbox One version also suffers from hitches. Sometimes the image is completely still for up to a second. Moving the installation of the game to an SSD solves that problem, Eurogamer concludes after further investigation. Xbox One owners must place an SSD in a USB 3.0 housing for this and can then move the game from the internal hard drive of the console to the USB storage.
Using a hard drive with a rotational speed of 7200rpm, or a hybrid sshd solves the worst hitches, but does not offer a complete solution, Eurogamer says. However, the loading times are slightly shorter when using these disks. The Xbox One has a 5400rpm HDD on board. Also on the PlayStation 4, Fallout 4 benefits from the use of an SSD. The loading times are in many cases halved. Faster storage does not affect the frame rate on both consoles.
Presumably, Bethesda will come with updates that should improve performance, or at least fix the hiccups with the Xbox One. However, the publisher has not yet officially commented on the performance issues.
The PC version of Fallout 4 has since broken a record on Steam. At its peak, 445,546 users were active in the game at the same time. Never before has a game on Steam that wasn’t made by Valve attracted so many players at the same time.
