Xbox One gamers can stream to Oculus Rift starting December 12

Xbox One owners will be able to stream their games to an Oculus Rift headset starting next month. A game streaming app will be released for this purpose, which can then be downloaded from the Oculus app store.

After activating the streaming app named Xbox One Streaming to Oculus Rift, the video output from the console will be streamed to the VR headset. That won’t work for all games right away, but Microsoft does promise that Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo 5: Guardians, several major sports games and a number of backwards compatible Xbox 360 games will be supported. Next year, the list of supported games will be expanded even further, Microsoft explains on its Xbox website.

The app required for streaming to the Oculus Rift is not yet available, but will be online on December 12. Then users can download the software from the application store for the Rift. No further payment is required for the streaming functionality.

Microsoft had previously indicated that it was in the process of streaming Xbox One games to the Oculus Rift. Support for streaming from Windows 10 was already present. Incidentally, according to rumors, Microsoft will eventually release a console with VR support built-in as standard.
