Xbox Game Pass members can install some games prior to addition

Microsoft has released a new update for the Xbox Series X and S and the Xbox One, giving Xbox Game Pass subscribers the opportunity to pre-install certain games that will be added to the service shortly.

Microsoft makes it clear that it is not a feature that will work for all games that will be added to the Game Pass in the short term. It is not clear on the basis of which this selection is made. Installing the games in advance can be done both from the interface on the console and from the Game Pass mobile app. Installing the upcoming games in advance does not mean that they can be played immediately; this is only possible from the moment that the games are actually part of the service.

In addition, Microsoft is adding a symbol to the user interface with the update to make it clear if players on the Xbox Series X and S play games with the Auto HDR function enabled. This feature, which adds high dynamic range from the console to games that do not support it themselves, already worked, but it was not always clear whether it was enabled. To address that, an Auto HDR label is now visible when players in a game press the Xbox button on their controller and enter the user interface.

Microsoft has also added dynamic backgrounds with the update and it has now become clear that the game Control from developer Remedy will be available from Thursday, as part of the Game Pass for consoles and Android. In addition, Doom Eternal will also be available for PC on the same day. This shooter has been part of the Game Pass for consoles for some time. Incidentally, a next-gen update for Control is being worked on, but it will only be available next year, as part of the Ultimate Edition. It will probably then be possible to play the game at 60fps and perhaps the next-gen version will also receive support for ray tracing, just like on the PC.
