Xbox Game Bar in Windows 10 gets support for widgets
The Xbox Game Bar, a callable and built-in overlay in Windows 10 to enable game-related options and adjust settings, is getting support for widgets. These can be added via the Game Bar Widget Store.
Inside the Game Bar menu, Insiders can see a new entry that opens the Widget Store within the Game Bar. Here new widgets can be found and users have the option to install and update them. The Xbox Game Bar is part of Windows 10 and can be called up via the key combination Win+G.
The XSplits app for casting in games, among others, already has a widget for the Game Bar, as does the Razer Cortex app. For example, the app allows users to terminate unnecessary processes running in the background on their computers.
Microsoft also says it is working with Intel to bring some key features from the Intel Graphics Command Center to the Xbox Game Bar. The companion widget, which will be available later this spring, will initially provide access to display settings, power profiles, and features for streaming and recording game footage.
Participants in the Insider program can already try the extension of the Xbox Game Bar in the form of the widgets. It is not yet clear when this will also become more widely available to others. Microsoft will stop at some point in ‘the near future’. However, the beta of the Game Bar SDK is available to everyone, so that developers have the option to create their own widgets.
