X has started hiding likes on profiles
X has started hiding users' likes. Anyone who visits the profile of another user can no longer see what that person has liked. Under posts you can still see how many likes the message in question has received.
The change has now been implemented, as can be seen on the social network. X said last week that the medium would hide likes, but until now it was not clear if and when that would happen. Likes can no longer be seen on other users' profiles.
It only concerns the likes that a user has given themselves. These were always publicly visible on the profile. According to X, the public likes will disappear 'to protect everyone's privacy'. Public likes have often been criticized in the past because users sometimes used that mechanism as a bookmark or reference instead of just to indicate whether they liked it. This allowed discussions to arise.
Many of the elements of likes can still be seen. Users can still see who likes their posts, the number of likes remains displayed under posts, and users continue to receive notifications of specific people who like their posts.
