WSJ: Nintendo developing Zelda mobile game
Nintendo is working on a smartphone game in the Zelda series, Wall Street Journal sources say. The game should be released after an Animal Crossing mobile game. The Pokémon Company is also said to be working on a new card game for smartphones.
Details about the upcoming Zelda game are not disclosed by the WSJ’s sources. They do report that the Animal Crossing mobile game should be released in the second half of 2017 and that the Zelda smartphone game will follow. Nintendo previously announced its intention to release two to three mobile games in its current fiscal year. That year ends in March 2018.
Nintendo has released two games in the Zelda series that worked with touch controls in the past, which were Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks for the DS. Super Mario Run was released for iOS at the end of 2016, followed by an Android version in March 2017. That game ultimately brought in less sales than Nintendo had expected. In the game, players can purchase additional levels with one $9.99 in-app purchase.
According to two WSJ sources, The Pokémon Company is working on a new card game app. No further details are known about this app.
