WSJ: iPhone 7 minimum storage is 32GB
Apple is doubling the minimum storage amount of the iPhone from 16 to 32 GB, claims the usually well-informed American newspaper The Wall Street Journal. It is not known what other storage quantities the manufacturer will offer.
The Wall Street Journal bases its claim that the entry-level version of the iPhone 7 will get 32GB instead of 16GB, on a ‘person who is familiar with Apple’s plans’. The WSJ regularly publishes accurate information about future Apple products and it is suspected that the newspaper itself receives this information from the iPhone manufacturer.
With the doubling of the minimum storage amount, Apple addresses one of the major criticisms of the entry-level iPhone. Where 32GB is commonplace with almost all high-end smartphones, Apple stuck to 16GB for a long time. In addition, because Apple only offers 64GB or 128GB versions, the lack of a 32GB iPhone was seen as a sales ploy to entice users to switch to the more expensive versions with more storage capacity.
It is not known whether Apple will soon offer models with 64 and 128GB or with 128 and 256GB in addition to the 32GB iPhone. Rumors had already appeared about the arrival of the latter option. Those rumors also speak of a design for the iPhone 7 that is almost identical to that of the iPhone 6. In addition, the 3.5mm mini-jack connection for audio will almost certainly disappear, there may be a black variant and the camera would have been improved. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 models in September.
