Wowee One Introduces Small Laser Projector
The British company Wowee One showed its green laser projector at CES, which can be linked to smartphones or tablets. The VUE uses a green laser to project its images onto any background.
Wowee One, not to be confused with robot manufacturer Wowwee, demonstrated the small projector at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The VUE, as the mini projector was called, is capable of projecting an image of 848 by 480 pixels on any background. Because a scanning laser is used, there is no need to focus. The laser achieves a brightness of 15 lumens and a contrast ratio of 5000:1.
The VUE is connected to a smartphone or tablet using a standard ‘mini-HDMI to HDMI’ cable. A special cable is available for Apple products and laptops can also use the small projector via a separate adapter. The projector is 60 millimeters wide, 118mm long and 14mm thick. The battery should last about two hours, but an adapter is included. The VUE should cost about $350.
Anyone who also wants sound for a presentation or impromptu portable cinema can get started with one of Wowees portable speakers. The Classic model seemed to give the fullest sound during a short demo, but the Slim version is a bit more compact. The most expensive option, the Pro, is not connected with audio cables, but via Bluetooth. Like the VUE, the Pro was announced at CES and costs $130.
