Blizzard is expanding the possibilities for players who suffer from color blindness with patch 6.1 for World of Warcraft. For example, the use of color in the game can be adjusted. The developer takes into account different forms of color blindness.

After patch 6.1 is released, World of Warcraft players will be able to adjust the color display of menu items to reflect the form of color blindness they have. The game takes into account three forms of the condition: protanomaly, deuteranomaly, and tritanomaly. In a drop-down menu, players can choose one of three shapes and then the intensity of the effect can be adjusted. Blizzard is trying to offer players the option to filter out colors that cause problems from menu items as much as possible.

If the option is enabled, text indications will also appear. For example, the quality of items in the game is indicated by the item’s name being displayed in a specific color. Blue stands for ‘Rare’, purple stands for ‘Epic’. With the new option enabled, the quality is also shown in text and the quality designation is in text before the name.

Patch 6.1 will be released on February 24. Other changes coming in patch 6.1 include the option to tweet text and screenshots from within the game, improvements to antialiasing, a new look for the in-game Blood Elves, and a new system for managing heirloom items.
