World of Warcraft base game and expansions become part of subscription
Blizzard has removed the old Battle Chest from its own online store. This Battle Chest contains the base game and all expansions released so far. This means that all current content is included in the monthly subscription price.
Blizzard has indicated that players can access all World of Warcraft content by subscribing to the game. It is therefore no longer necessary to first purchase the base game separately, in addition to paying the monthly subscription price. Existing players, like new players, will also receive all content up to and including the latest, sixth expansion: World of Warcraft: Legion for free.
Removing the Battle Chest probably doesn’t mean the upcoming seventh World of Warcraft expansion will also be included in the subscription price. Previously, old content was put in the Battle Chest when new content came out. Battle for Azeroth will be released on August 14, and this expansion will allow players to grow their characters to level 120 and also create characters belonging to new races.
