World of Tanks coming to Xbox One in 2015
Publisher Wargaming announces that its free-to-play game World of Tanks will be released for Xbox One later this year. The game will also be free to play on the new console from Microsoft. It can also be played cross-platform against Xbox 360 owners.
Wargaming announces via its own website that it has a new edition of World of Tanks in production. After the game was released for the Xbox 360 a year ago, the publisher and developer from Belarus is now working on a version for Microsoft’s latest console.
Like the Windows and Xbox 360 version, the Xbox One version is also free to play, although an Xbox Live Gold subscription is required to play. The versions for Xbox 360 and Xbox One can even be played against each other online. The new version will appear later this year, although Wargaming does not clarify when exactly.
Wargaming is one of the biggest players in the free-to-play market, especially successful with World of Tanks. The mmog, in which players send a tank across the battlefield, first appeared on the market in 2010. It was immediately successful, especially in Eastern Europe. A year later, the game appeared in Europe and the US. According to Wargaming, more than 60 million accounts have been created for the game. As of January 23, 2011, 91,311 players were logged in simultaneously on the same server, which is included in the Guinness Book of Records. Meanwhile, Wargaming has broken its own record. Since 2013, the record stands at 190541 players logged into the same server.
