Windows version Quantum Break will be exclusive to the Windows Store
The Windows version of Quantum Break will not be available on digital distribution platforms such as Steam. Instead, publisher Microsoft will only offer the game digitally through its own Windows Store.
Aaron Greenberg, head of marketing for Xbox Games, reveals the information on a recent episode of Major Nelson Radio. Quantum Break will also only run on DX12. It’s not the first time Microsoft has leveraged its products to promote another proprietary product. A well-known example of this from the past is Halo 2. The American company made the decision to make the Windows version of that game exclusive to Windows Vista, which was its latest operating system at the time. The Redmond-based company wanted to leverage the franchise’s popularity to boost Vista’s sales pressures. Version 10 of DirectX was also exclusive to Windows Vista at the time.
In addition, the recommended system requirements for the game have recently been revised downwards. Where previously a GeForce GTX 980 Ti and a Core i7 4790 were recommended, it is now a GTX 970 and a Core i5 4690. What used to fall under the recommended specifications, now falls under the ‘ultra’ specifications. The minimum requirements have remained the same. This is evident from screenshots collected by Wccftech. Quantum Break will be released on April 5 for Xbox One and Windows 10.
