Windows handheld with keyboard and game buttons gets Atom x7-soc

GamePad Digital has announced that it is upgrading its upcoming Windows gamepad from an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 soc to an Intel Atom x7-Z8750 or x7-8700 soc, subject to availability.

The handheld console is not the first console from GamePad Digital or GPD. The company has already released some handheld consoles based on Android. The GPD Win would be the first Windows console from the Chinese manufacturer. GPD started a crowdfunding campaign for the Windows version at the end of February.

Besides the soc, nothing changes in the proposed design. This means that the Windows 10 handheld with 5.5″ screen has 4GB lpddr3-1600 ram and 64GB eemc flash memory on board. In addition, there is a micro-SD card slot that can handle cards with a guaranteed storage capacity of up to 128GB.

To control the whole thing, there is a qwerty keyboard, a dpad and two alps joysticks. One of the alps joysticks should also act as a mouse.

The screen is a capacitive touchscreen with 1280×720 pixels. There is also a mini HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port and a micro USB connection. The 6000mAh battery should last between six and eight hours, depending on the required computing power.

The whole measures 15.5×9.7×2.2 cm and weighs 300 grams. The crowdfunding campaign has already closed, but interested parties can still pre-order for $330.
