Microsoft may be bringing AI features to several Windows 11 apps, including Paint. Insiders report this to Windows Central. For example, Paint would support text-to-image prompts. It is not known if and when the features will actually be released.

Microsoft is currently ‘exploring’ the potential for AI in several of its Windows 11 apps, report resources to Windows Central. In addition to Microsoft Paint, this includes, for example, the Snipping Tool, the Camera app and the Photos app in the operating system. Paint may get a text-to-image feature, allowing users to generate images based on custom prompts. That’s similar to Bing’s Image Creator feature, which runs on OpenAI’s Dall-E model.

The Photos app, in turn, may get an option to recognize objects or people in images. These can then be cut out of the photo, after which they can be pasted into other images. Microsoft is also testing optical character recognition in the Snipping Tool, which can be used to recognize and copy text from screenshots. The same feature may also be coming to the Camera app for Windows 11, allowing users to copy text from a photo taken with a webcam.

It is not known if and when Microsoft will add these features to Windows 11. According to Windows Central, the ideas are still in an ‘early stage’. Microsoft will hold an event on September 21 at which the tech giant may announce new Surface devices and elaborate on AI features in Windows. It is not known whether these features will be revealed.
