Windows 8.1 users without Update 1 will get another month of updates
Microsoft has extended support for Windows 8.1 machines without Update 1 by just under a month. Earlier, the software giant announced that it would stop offering updates for the outdated version in May.
Microsoft wrote on its Windows blog on Monday that a majority of users have switched to the latest major release, Windows 8.1 Update 1. “We recognize that not everyone has done so. We believe it is very important that our customers have the latest updates on their devices. and therefore we have decided to extend the update requirement by 30 days, until June 10,” it reads.
With the decision, Microsoft seems to be weakening its tough approach. In early April, the software maker said that users who have not installed the first update for Windows 8.1 before this time, will no longer receive updates. “It is a mandatory update to keep Windows 8.1 current,” the company said at the time.
Windows 8.1 Update 1 appeared in April and brought the necessary changes with it. For example, users of desktops and laptops automatically enter the desktop environment after startup and Windows 8 apps from the Windows Store can be pinned to the taskbar.
