Windows 7 Extended Security Update Program to End on January 10, 2023

Microsoft will retire the extended security program for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 7 Professional Edition for Embedded Systems on January 10, 2023. Several editions of Windows Server 2008 are supported until January 9, 2024.

On a support page, Microsoft writes that the paid Extended Security Update program for the above-mentioned Windows 7 systems will enter its final year from February 8, 2022 and will end on January 10, 2023. With this program, customers who have volume licensing agreements with Microsoft can receive extended security updates for Windows 7 for a fee.

Customers using Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, or one of these versions for embedded systems in combination with Azure, can receive an additional year of paid support until January 9, 2024, instead of February 14, 2023.

With the Extended Security Update program, users of the above operating systems can receive extended security updates for a longer period of time, but for a fee and in periods of one year at a time. No new features are added to the operating systems. General public support for Windows 7 ended in early 2020. No new features were added to the OS since 2015.
