Windows 11 update crashes games and affects Explorer performance

The Windows 11 October 2023 Update has reportedly introduced a bug that crashes Microsoft games like Starfield. In addition, the performance of Windows Explorer would be negatively affected.

Windows Latest reports that the Windows 11 patch KB5031354 causes problems when starting games such as Starfield, Lies of P and other Xbox games. The error code 0x89245106 implies that the operating system cannot detect the default user for the game. The cumulative update would also have a negative impact on the performance of Windows Explorer.

Undoing the October 2023 Update would fix the problems, users report on Reddit. Microsoft confirms in a post on the Feedback Hub that it is aware of the reports and that it has now rolled out a fix.
