Windows 11 trial includes taskbar and Microsoft Store tweaks

Microsoft has released a new test version of Windows 11 to Insider users and it offers some changes related to the taskbar and the Microsoft Store. Among other things, the previously announced Teams chat function has been added to the taskbar.

The update concerns the preview build version 22000.100 of Windows 11, which has been made available to users in the Dev Channel of the Insider Testing Program. The most important change was already announced on Wednesday and that is the addition of Teams Chat, which can be opened via its own button on the taskbar.

Another new feature is that apps flash on the taskbar when they require the user’s attention. According to Microsoft, this is a subtle effect that eventually stops, after which a light red background and deep red underline indicate that the app needs attention.

The size of the keyboard icon has also been adjusted and the calendar fly-out can be fully collapsed. The fly-out window with other icons, at the bottom right of the taskbar, no longer has sharp corners and the Focus Assist settings can now be accessed directly from the notification center.

In addition, Microsoft has refreshed its Store with numerous new animations when navigating items. Microsoft wants to make its software store more attractive, with a new look and more apps. Among other things, a lower contribution by developers and the arrival of Android apps, via the Amazon Appstore, should ensure this. Those Android apps are not yet in the current version of the Microsoft Store.
