Windows 11 gets new Microsoft Store with more freedoms for developers

Windows 11 is getting a revamped Microsoft Store where users can purchase software. Developers can integrate their own payment systems and then do not have to pay anything to Microsoft. Win32 apps can also be put in the Store.

Microsoft wants to revive and popularize its download store for Windows by making it more attractive for developers to put their software in it. Microsoft does this by giving developers more freedom. This makes it possible to put Win32 apps in the Store and software makers can integrate their own payment systems into software. In this way it is possible to circumvent the 30 percent commission that Microsoft asks.

With competing platforms, software makers must make all payments through the download store’s payment system. For example, Apple gets a 30 percent commission on all purchases within apps. That is still the case with the Microsoft Store, but in the new Store that is coming to Windows 11, that will change.

There have been rumors about the arrival of a new Microsoft Store with relaxation for developers. These now appear to be implemented in Windows 11. The renewed Store was not yet in the leaked build of Windows 11. The new Microsoft Store also brings Android apps to Windows 11, via integration with the Amazon Appstore.
