Windows 10 users can run Creators Update themselves from Wednesday
Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 users will be able to install the Creators Update themselves starting April 5. A week later, Microsoft starts releasing the update. This will happen in phases, with new devices being the first to receive the update.
Especially devices that Microsoft has tested with the help of the manufacturers belong to the first batch, which will receive the Creators Update from April 11th. Then more devices will get the big Windows update, but it will take months for all Windows 10 computers to get the update. Users who don’t want to wait for Microsoft to ship the update can download the Creators Update themselves from April 5 via the Update Assistant.
Microsoft also announced that it will begin shipping the Creators Update to devices with Windows Phone on April 25. When the phones get the update varies by make, model, region and carrier.
Microsoft sets out the details about the phased rollout of the Windows 10 Creators Update on its blog. According to the company, the approach should ensure that the update runs as smoothly as possible. By releasing the update in phases, Microsoft can identify any issues and mitigate their impact.
The Creators Update brings, among other things, Paint 3D, a 3d variant of the well-known drawing program, to the operating system. Also new is the Beam feature, which allows users to stream games. That works on both computers and the Xbox One. Furthermore, the update includes a blue light filter and a game mode that should lead to optimal performance when playing games. During the installation of the update, users will be presented with a privacy screen with settings. In it it is possible to indicate whether Microsoft can use the location, diagnostic data and voice files and whether apps are allowed to show personalized advertising.
On Tuesday it turned out that a tool was online with which the update could already be downloaded. It was a build with version number 15063, equivalent to the latest Insider Preview. Presumably that build is also the final release of the Creators Update. In the meantime, Microsoft has taken the tool offline and the iso files can no longer be downloaded.
