Windows 10 preview update gives Edge browser private mode
An update to Windows 10 gives the Edge browser in that operating system a private mode and an indicator to show which tabs are playing audio. Microsoft warns that the browser can cause many problems on systems with an AMD GPU.
The new build has serial number 10122, Microsoft reports. In addition to the changes to Edge, formerly Project Spartan, Microsoft has also slightly tweaked the start menu. The button to switch between the start menu and the start screen has disappeared, according to Microsoft because the button was too little important to show all the time. The File Explorer and Settings buttons have been moved down.
In addition, in Windows 10, Microsoft has made it impossible for apps to invoke a dialog to change the default program for a particular file type. For example, Chrome can no longer show a window on first launch to make it the default browser. According to Microsoft, this prevents programs from often displaying such windows, while keeping users in control.
The update for Windows 10 is coming first to users in the ‘fast ring’, users who have indicated that they want to run experimental builds first. If he is stable enough, he will also come to the slow ring later on. Windows 10 will be released this summer, probably at the end of July. The update is only available for PCs and tablets, not for Windows Phone devices.
