Windows 10 October Update available for users updating manually

Windows 10 Update 1809, also known as the October Update, will be distributed on December 17 to all “advanced users” who manually click “Check for updates” and who have no known compatibility issues.

Microsoft makes that known on the update history page: “Version 1809 is now fully available for advanced users who manually check for updates via Windows Update.” On that same page, a few more problems are listed that result in users having to deal with an upgrade block. This happens with select Intel Display Drivers, VPN clients, Trend Micro security software, and AMD HD2000 and 4000 GPUs.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that manually checking for updates could result in the installation of a preview version for testing purposes, effectively turning a user into a tester.

The Windows 10 October Update was initially released in October, as the name suggests. Shortly after, reports started pouring in about the most famous update issue: users couldn’t find files, folders, and programs. A pause of a month followed, during which Microsoft remedied the shortcoming. The Redmond company resumed the rollout in mid-November.
