Windows 10 mobile gets photo management and control with one hand

Microsoft has released build 10536 for Windows 10 mobile. Inside is a version of the Photos app with folders based on where images are stored. In addition, the mode to operate the phone with one hand now also works on smaller devices.

The feature requires users to get the new version of the Photos app from the Store after the update, Microsoft says. Then photos are in folders based on where they are stored, such as on the device, in OneDrive or on the SD card. That’s a feature users have been asking for, the Redmond company claims.

In addition, the mode to display the interface on a smaller part of the screen, the ‘one handed mode’, now works on all devices. That was a feature only for larger devices, but the smaller phones now support it too. This works by holding the Start button, after which the screen comes down. Some large Android devices also have this function, if the manufacturer has built it in. It is also in the iPhone 6 series.

The company also says that it will release a version of Lumia Camera later this fall with support for shooting in raw and at a maximum of 38 megapixels for the Lumia 1020 that appeared in 2013. It has so far had to do without those functions under Windows 10 mobile, while that are included in the Windows Phone 8.1 version of the app.

Build 10536 was supposed to be released last Friday, but Microsoft had found critical bugs that caused it to stop the release after only a few hundred people received the update. Whoever does the update now has to install three separate updates. Microsoft has an event on October 6, where it will probably announce more about the release of Windows 10 mobile.
