Windows 10 Home preview build has option to pause updates for 35 days
It appears that Windows 10 Home will be able to pause the installation of updates for 35 days starting with Update 1903. That is now seven days. The Pro and Enterprise versions already have the option to wait for 35 days.
When a user pauses updates in Windows 10, no updates are installed during that time. That applies to both security updates and feature updates. After the break is over, all overdue updates will be installed. Only then can the device be put into pause mode again. This reports Ars Technica.
The website saw the option to pause updates in the Home edition for 35 days in a preview build. Ars wrongly speaks of ‘defer’ when they mean ‘pause’. Those are two different functions. Defer is the option to always defer installation security or feature updates, or both, for a specific amount of time.
The change may be related to the problematic implementation of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. It initially caused users to lose files, folders and programs. It wasn’t until January of this year that the actual automatic distribution of the update began. Recently, it became clear that Windows 10 will continue to try to roll back problematic updates.
