Windows 10 gets its first major update
The first major update to Windows 10 will be distributed across Windows 10 platforms starting Thursday. The update for PCs and tablets includes many improvements and new drivers for peripherals. Microsoft now also recommends Windows 10 for organizations and businesses.
Microsoft writes this on its Windows blog. In addition to tablets and PCs, the Xbox One will receive a Windows 10 update from Thursday. This will also make the first 104 Xbox 360 games playable on the Xbox One. Windows 10 for mobile phones is coming soon according to the blog, but exactly when that is is not yet clear.
Members of the Insider Preview program in the Fast Ring already received this update on November 5 with build 10586. The improvements to the operating system are initially in the performance, the operation of Microsoft’s personal assistant Cortana, the Skype integration, the Edge browser, Mail, Calendar, Groove, Store, Photos and Solitaire.
In addition to the upgrades, Microsoft is introducing two new components, namely Windows Update for Business and Windows Store for Business. The former can manage updates across devices, and the Windows Store makes apps more manageable. For example, it can be imposed which standard Windows Store apps and which own apps can or cannot be installed or must be installed correctly. Also, apps can be set so that they can only use specific storage locations.
The byod options have also been expanded with Mobile Device Management and Azure Active Directory Join has been added. More updates will follow soon, which are especially interesting for business customers, such as the ability to distinguish between company data and customer data. This feature will be available soon from Windows Insiders.
