Windows 10 gets blue light filter
The latest Insider build of Windows 10 includes a blue light filter. The function adjusts the color temperature of the display according to the time of day. It is likely that the filter will officially come to Windows 10 with the Creators Update.
Microsoft has not officially released Windows 10 Build 14997, but the update has appeared online and appears to contain a number of new features, Windows Central writes, among others. A blue light filter has been added to the settings, which can be used to make screens emit less blue light. There is a slider with which the color temperature can be adjusted and an option to dynamically adjust the color temperature depending on the time of day and the position of the sun. This should, among other things, promote sleep.
The blue light filter is added to the notification center so that it can be quickly turned on or off. The feature is currently only in the experimental build for Windows Insiders, but Microsoft will likely make the feature officially available in the Creators Update, which should be released next year for all Windows 10 users.
Apple has equipped its iOS with a blue light filter since version 9.3 under the name Night Shift. A similar feature called Night Light is in Android 7.1, but it currently only works on the Google Pixel smartphones. There are also several third-party programs for Windows and other operating systems that add a blue light filter, such as f.lux.
