WikiLeaks Claims Victory in Visa Payment Blocking Lawsuit

Visa is not allowed to block payments to WikiLeaks. That is what an Icelandic judge finds in a case against the credit card company. Visa is blocking donations to the site because of WikiLeaks revelations in 2010, something more companies did.

The Icelandic court has ruled that Visa is acting unlawfully by blocking payments to WikiLeaks. “A complete win for WikiLeaks”, cheers the site through their own Twitter account. The text of the ruling is not yet available online, making it unclear whether WikiLeaks actually achieved a victory.

The case was brought on behalf of WikiLeaks last summer by Swiss payment provider Datacell, which handles payments to WikiLeaks. The substantive treatment took place a few weeks ago. A year ago, WikiLeaks also announced that it wanted to file a case against Visa and MasterCard in Denmark.
