Nintendo of America has reported that the Wii U is seeing an upward trend in sales. In 2014, 29 percent more hardware and 75 percent more software were sold in the US than in 2013. The console itself set a sales record in December.

Nintendo of America does not mention exact sales numbers, but the company does emphasize that it achieved more sales in 2014 than in the previous year. The latest console from Nintendo has played an important part in this, because the Wii U sold more in 2014 than in other years. It’s unclear how that’s calculated, though, because Nintendo separates a calendar year from the fiscal year.

The company owes its upward trend to the new games that have come out and the introduction of the amiibo figures. In 2014, games like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. released for the Wii U. The racing game has sold 1.7 million times, while the fighting game has kept up with 1.3 million sales. The amiibo figures have sold almost twice as many as Super Smash Bros., Nintendo claims. Bayonetta 2 has also been a big title for the Wii U, but the company is not making any statements about that game.

Nintendo showed the new range for 2015 earlier this week. New versions of the 3DS handhelds are being released. The company plans to release Splatoon for Wii U in May. That will happen in May, but a release date has not yet been announced. In addition, some Wii games are being re-released for Wii U via the eShop.
