Chat service WhatsApp will stop supporting some old versions of Android and iOS as of November 1. From that date, users running those OS versions will no longer be able to use the chat service.

WhatsApp writes on its website that as of November 1, the service will only offer support for smartphones with iOS 10 or newer and Android 4.1 or newer. This means that support for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will expire, among other things. iOS 10 was released in 2016 and Android 4.1 was released in 2012.

Users who have a smartphone with Android 4.04 or iOS 9 or older are recommended to switch to a new device and back up their chat history before then. That backup can be later restored to a newer device. From November 1, it is no longer possible to make such a backup on a device that is not supported.
