WhatsApp will soon allow users to transfer call logs to a new number
WABetaInfo reports that it has found texts in a beta version of WhatsApp that indicate the ability to transfer backups of chats to a WhatsApp account on a different phone number.
WABetaInfo reports that it is only possible to move the call history to another number “when the user connects a new device to his WhatsApp account.” It does not indicate which version the text is in exactly.
This capability follows shortly on other WhatsApp beta news about possible migration from Android to iOS and vice versa. At the time of writing, it is not yet possible to switch numbers or mobile operating systems and take WhatsApp conversation history with you.
The site reports that there is no indication whatsoever of when the features will see the light of day. The fact that WABetaInfo is digging them up in a beta version only means that the developer is working on it, but not how far that development has progressed.
Last year, the site also discovered evidence that WhatsApp is working on the ability to use an account across devices. The menu to use WhatsApp Web had changed to a more generic ui that allows users to ‘link a new device’. It was striking that WhatsApp specifically mentioned the Facebook Portal.
