‘WhatsApp tests playing YouTube videos with picture-in-picture’

WhatsApp is said to be testing a feature to play YouTube videos in its iOS app in picture-in-picture. As a result, users no longer leave the app to watch a video. Users can drag the window, claims website WABetaInfo.

The feature only works on the iPhone 6, 6s and 7 series, WaBetaInfo claims. Due to the size of the screen, it will not work on the 4″ iPhones that the app currently supports. The site points out that the feature is still under development and may change.

It is a hidden feature in version 2.17.40 and is not ready for release yet. It would also not be possible to enable the feature remotely and would require an update via the App Store. It is still unknown if picture-in-picture for YouTube videos will come to the versions of WhatsApp for Android and Windows Phone. A video from WABetaInfo shows the feature in action.

WABetaInfo has often brought out new features of WhatsApp in recent years, which can be found in updates of WhatsApp.
