WhatsApp starts with animated stickers in apps

WhatsApp is getting an animated stickers feature in its apps. Test users running the latest update can see the animated stickers. Later, there will be possibilities to import sticker packs from third parties.

The animated stickers feature, according to WABetaInfo, consists of three parts. There is the possibility to see, save and share the moving stickers. In addition, users will soon be able to download standard packages from WhatsApp themselves and finally there will be the option to import packages of animated stickers from third parties.

At the moment it is still about being able to see the stickers. To use the feature, test users will need to update to version 2.20.194.7 of the app’s Android beta and 2.20.70.26 of WhatsApp’s iOS beta. Users may have to reinstall WhatsApp to get the latest updates from the server, according to WABetaInfo.

With the current implementation, stickers can’t play in a loop yet, and new stickers from third parties are still rare anyway because there’s no option to download them.
