WhatsApp releases group calling function with four people
WhatsApp has released a feature that allows chat app users to make video and voice calls with a group of people. This is possible with a maximum number of four participants.
WhatsApp reports that it has made the feature available to users on iOS and Android. They can use it by first starting a conversation with one participant and then adding more people. This is possible by tapping the corresponding button in the top right corner, the company explains. It is possible to have voice conversations that way, or choose to add video to the group conversation.
According to the Facebook subsidiary, all conversations are end-to-end encrypted, just like other messages. The company also says it designed the feature to work in different parts of the world, regardless of the quality of the network. WhatsApp announced the feature a while back, at Facebook’s F8 developer conference in May.
In that month, it also added other features to regular group conversations, including a summary option and more options for administrators.
