WhatsApp processes more than 100 million calls a day

WhatsApp handles more than 100 million calls a day through its VoIP feature. The chat app has announced that. It is the first time that WhatsApp lists a number of calls per day, making it impossible to determine how much the function will grow.

The number of 100 million VoIP calls per day means that users start around 1157 calls per second. WhatsApp does not mention how long those calls last on average. WhatsApp previously claimed around a billion active users for its service.

WhatsApp introduced its calling service last year. It is a VoIP feature that is available to all users of the service. Because many users have a limited data bundle, WhatsApp came shortly after its introduction with an option to reduce data consumption.
