WhatsApp once again records strong growth in the number of active users
WhatsApp now has more than 800 million active users, the company has announced. That means that tens of millions of active users have been added every month in recent times.
Jan Koum, founder of WhatsApp, announced on his Facebook page that the messaging service has now passed the number of 800 million active users. A user is considered active if he or she logs in at least once a month. The number of registered users was not reported.
The figures show that WhatsApp continues to grow strongly under the management of Facebook. In January, the service still recorded 700 million active users. That means that tens of millions of users are added every month. There were previously rumors that users would switch to competitors en masse because of the takeover by Facebook, but those messages do not seem to be correct.
If growth continues, WhatsApp will reach one billion users this year. This brings the number of active users closer and closer to that of parent company Facebook, which according to the latest figures is about 1.35 billion users, but is growing less quickly.
WhatsApp recently added a number of new features, which may have contributed to the strong growth in the number of users. For example, it is now possible to use WhatsApp via the web and mutual calls can be made via Voip.
