WhatsApp may get an option to send photos in original quality

The Android beta version of WhatsApp includes a feature that gives users the option to send photos in their original quality. Currently, a degree of compression is still applied, so that the files become smaller.

According to WABetaInfo, which often writes about upcoming WhatsApp features, update 2.23.2.11 includes the new feature to maintain the full quality of the photo. WhatsApp would add a new settings icon to the drawing tool, with which users can set the quality of the photo. This is a feature that will probably be available to everyone in a future version of WhatsApp, but it is still unknown if and especially when that will happen.

Currently, users have three options to set photo upload quality: automatic, best quality and data saver. The best quality setting produces the least compression, but WhatsApp’s compression algorithm still results in a file that is 80 percent the size of the original file, and photos larger than 2048×2048 pixels are typically reduced in size by WhatsApp.
