WhatsApp may be working on audio-only group chats
WhatsApp seems to be working on a new group feature that will allow participants to participate in an audio chat. That function would be behind a new icon at the top of the image for group conversations.

The feature is in beta version 2.23.7.12 of the Android app, reports WABetaInfo. Users can see an icon with the shape of sound waves at the top of the screen. That’s for the feature that appears to be called WhatsApp Audio Chats. In its interface there will also be a red button to end the call.
The feature also seems to start displaying sound waves in conversations to show that a conversation is in progress. This is possible while users consult other chats. WhatsApp and parent company Meta have not yet said anything about the feature and the feature is not yet active. Calling via WhatsApp has been possible for years and there are also group calls with video in the app.
