WhatsApp makes audio and video calling via desktop app available to everyone
WhatsApp makes audio and video calling available on the desktop. The feature has been available in beta for some time, but is now available for everyone. For now, only individual conversations are possible.
The function is now available to everyone, according to WhatsApp, after it was tested a few weeks ago. Calling is only possible in the desktop apps and not in the browser. Users must be running at least Windows 10 on 64bit version 1903 or later, or macOS 10.13 or later. WhatsApp Desktop is not available for Linux.
Users can make both audio and video calls. They are encrypted with the same end-to-end encryption as conversations. It is necessary to establish a connection with the telephone, but calls go through the computer. For now, only individual one-to-one conversations are supported. Group conversations will follow later, but WhatsApp won’t say when.
